Memnosyne Institute to hold Fifth Annual Green Source DFW Sustainable Leadership Awards

10/27/2016 (PRESS RELEASE JET) — The Memnosyne Institute is gearing up to recognize North Texas’ “Greenest Stars” when it hosts the fifth annual Green Source DFW Sustainable Leadership Awards on Nov. 3 at the Dallas Arboretum.

The main focus of GreenSourceDFW.org, an online publication that features original reporting on environmental issues and green trends in North Texas. The website is updated with new articles and calendar listings of green events each week. In addition, it’s a resource where users can find green businesses, organizations, job listings and farmers markets in North Texas. The awards were started in 2012 to recognize excellence among green leaders, nonprofits, businesses and volunteers in the community.

“The great thing about the Green Source DFW Sustainable Leadership Awards is that it brings all facets of the North Texas green community together in one room,” said Wendel Withrow, the Memnosyne Institute’s Director of the Center for the Environment.

“This year’s event will be better than ever,” said Withrow. “We’re hosting it in a brand new venue with a wonderful speaker Howard Garrett and a catered dinner.”

Over the years, the awards have honored DFW area’s most venerable environmentalists, including Trammell S. Crow, founder of Earth Day Texas; Tom Kemper, founder of Dolphin Blue; Margie Haley, environmental activist and philanthropist; Jim Schermbeck, director of Downwinders at Risk; Sharon Wilson, Earthworks organizer; and Georgeanne Moss, leader of Dallas County Community College District’s Sustainable Team to name a few; along with dozens of eco-conscious volunteers, entrepreneurs and nonprofit professionals.

This year Dallas-based organic gardening pioneer and nationally syndicated radio host Howard Garrett, aka the Dirt Doctor, will be receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award. He will also be speaking at the event.

Ticket prices are available as follows:

Dinner tickets – $35.

2016-2017 Green Source DFW Sustaining Membership – $55 dollars. True Tree Hugger – $75
