PORTOLA VALLEY, CA – 19 Aug, 2016 – On 8/20/16, Stephen Marra is competing in a 100K UltraMarathon in Morgan Hill, Ca. His efforts will benefit the Cardiomyopathy research of Dr. Calum MacRae at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.
Stephen’s daughter Kate was a competitive Team USA swimmer and several years ago, became a patient in the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital CardioVascular Intensive Care Unit. Stephen has been fund-raising to support cardiac research ever since by competing in long distance running and cycling events. Today, Kate is a college sophomore in an RN degree program and in the midst of doing a student nurse summer internship in Cardiac Pediatrics.
Stephen remains committed to supporting and fundraising for Dr. MacRae, who is Chief of Cardiovascular Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. MacRae is a cardiologist and geneticist whose clinical interests include understanding the mechanisms of heart and vascular disease – especially cardiomyopathies. His lab has developed new models for drug discovery in these diseases including ARVC. Dr. MacRae also focuses on how research findings can be systematically implemented into clinical care.
